Vikas & Virasat
Vikas & Virasat (V&V) recognises that Rajasthan's historic settlements and cities, folk arts, crafts and traditional knowledge offer unparalleled, renewable resources for supporting sustainable livelihoods across the state. With appropriate investment, management and creative inputs and strategic mobilisation, Rajasthan's heritage resources can contribute significantly to a distinctive and more inclusive economy.
V&V is an innovative pilot program for social development and economic transformation in Rajasthan, to be implemented over four years with continuous review and monitoring.
In a time when poverty and inequality are such critical issues, Rajasthan's heritage can be utilised to contribute to a local, holistic growth model for the state for other parts of India and the world.
Heritage-based growth, being value- and people-based, inclusive and ecologically appropriate, can offer a corrective to a purely GDP-driven strategy.
V&V sets out to conserve and reposition heritage resources, to strengthen a people-based, modern economy that is inclusive, sustainable and adaptable to changing circumstances.
The Vikas & Virasat Initiative was conceived under the aegis of the Jaipur Virasat Foundation. For collaboration and involvement, contact the V&V director at vikasandvirasat@gmail.com.
